Luciana Perin

Luciana was born in Petrella-Tifemina. At the age of 6 she migrated with her parents to Melbourne, where the family settled in North Carlton. She attended local primary and secondary schools, and in 1977 completed a Bachelor of Education (Arts and Crafts) at the University of Melbourne Institute of Education, majoring in Painting, Art History and Philosophy.

In 1977, she was awarded the " Italia Prize, Young Artist Category" and in 1998 1st prize, "Contemporary Section of the Mt Kosciosko-Thredbo Art Show".

After teaching art in secondary schools for 9 years, a career move was made in 1986,when after returning from Europe, she embarked on unknown territory, that of fashion and theatre. With her own label, the fashion garments with unusual hand painted detail were popular with up-market stores and craft galleries throughout Victoria. Working in theatre and fashion provided an incredible inspirational source, which is reflected in the textural and lighting effects seen in the paintings.

The next 4 years involved rearing her son, commissions and consultancy work in Colour and Furnishings for her architect brother. Some art teaching with children continued at the Metro Craft Centre a Melbourne, where she ran workshops.

She now paints full-time.
