Iolanda

Inspirational is just one of the million words that could be used to describe the compassionate, altruistic and magnificent woman who will always be my role model.  This woman is my nonna Iolanda.  Struggle, cannot come close to what she has encountered in her life.  Coming from an impoverished family, Iolanda, at the age of six had to work  on a farm in her town village to help earn the money her family desperately needed.  Regardless of the fact that she had contracted the incurable disease, polio, which disabled her from using her legs, she persisted to work without a single complaint.  Sacrificing her life meant that she would be able to give her eight brothers and sisters the life she only dreamt about.  After many arduous years of struggling, her parents scraped enough money for her to migrate to Australia in order to better her life.  Not knowing a solitary
word of this new language or where about she would live, she always kept a positive attitude and tried her best, no matter what.  It was this determination that has allowed her to conquer many great things that might have seemed inevitable to other people.  I love and cherish my nonna dearly, because these selfless qualities have made me want to be just like her in every possible way.
